CBD Dog Treats: Do They Work?
In theory, CBD treats are a great idea. They’re convenient and easy to give your pet …
… But just because the treats have CBD oil, does that mean your dog’s actually getting the benefits, Especially if you are baking them yourself?
The Benefits Of CBD Oil For Dogs
Cannabidiol (CBD) oil comes from the hemp plant, which is part of the cannabis family. CBD is also found in cannabis, which contains THC, the hallucinogenic component and various other cannabinoids beneficial to your dogs health.
Most CBD oils designed for dogs, give you the benefits of CBD without the THC. So don’t worry, it isn’t going to make your dog “high.”
Research shows that CBD oil is a very effective natural immune system support. It’s also proven to be valuable for managing and preventing:
Arthritis and joint pain
Neurological disorders (such as seizures and epilepsy)
Tumors and cancers
It can also improve your dogs general health and wellbeing!
Knowing this, it’s easy to see why people are choosing to give CBD treats to their dogs. But are they the best option?
CBD Dog Treats – Are There Any Concerns?
We have thousands of customers who give their dogs CBD oil every day. I’ve read the research and heard so many others talk about how it has helped them and their dogs. It really is an amazing supplement.
It’s important to know what you’re feeding your dog. Since CBD dog treats are so popular, I wanted to know what to look for, and let others know too.
So we gathered some CBD dog treat questions we’ve had come in and answered as best we can!:
Does the cooking process or heat change the potency of the CBD?
How do you know what potency to feed and what should you look for when checking potency?
How do I know if the treats contain high quality or low quality hemp CBD?
The Challenge Of Baking CBD Dog Treats
CBD in dog treats is affected during the cooking process. CBD can start to break down at 200 degrees and is almost completely broken down by 350 degrees.
And cooking can degrade the bioavailability of CBD oil meaning your dog won’t be absorbing it well.
So unless the treats are baked low and slow there is a risk that the amount of CBD originally added will be less. And unless the company runs testing after baking, you won’t know how much the heat changed the levels. Fortunately , our CBD biscuits are manufactured, and batch tested to ensure each one contains the stated levels of active cannabinoids
Another thing you want to consider when looking at treats is what else is in that treat. Adding CBD won’t matter if the product contains artificial flavors or preservatives. The amounts won’t likely be high enough to combat the health impact of additives. Again, the CBD treats available at Paradise CBD contain no additives or preservatives, only 3 natural ingredients, perfectly picked to benefit your dogs health.
Potency And CBD Dosage For Dogs
If you’re using CBD for therapeutic reasons you’ll want to know the dose your dog needs.
The general rule of thumb is to give 1mg of CBD per 10 pounds of body weight, depending on the dog. And you’ll need to know the CBD potency of the treats. For example, a 30lb dog would need to take one of our 3.3mg treats per day.
For anxiety or health prevention, you’ll find that the lower doses work well. But if your dog is dealing with pain or immune issues, you’ll need a higher amount.
It’s best to start with a smaller dose and work your way up. If you find a low dose isn’t the best fit for your dog, it’s best to check in with your holistic vet. Together you can determine the best dose, or if treats are the best way to dose his CBD.
